|PULITZER FOR PANAMA PAPERS|
The group of international journalists behind the Panama Papers has won this year's Pulitzer Prize. They put a spotlight on global tax evasion.
The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, or ICIJ, received the prize in the Explanatory Reporting category. The Pulitzer board noted the work of more than 300 reporters across six continents to expose the hidden infrastructure and global scale of offshore tax havens.
ICIJ Director Gerald Ryle said the honor was a testament to the teamwork of their staff and partners in the U.S. and around the world.
The documents were originally leaked to the German newspaper, Sueddeutsche Zeitung. In Japan, the Asahi Shimbun and the Kyodo News analyzed the papers. NHK joined the endeavor in June last year. Japanese nationals were found to have accounts in tax havens and have been implicated in international criminal activity.
