|ELECTRONICS CHAIN TO ACCEPT BITCOINS|
Shoppers in Tokyo at one of Japan's major electronics retailers will soon be able to pay for their goods using Bitcoins. Executives at Bic Camera have decided that two of its stores in the city will start accepting the virtual currency from Friday.
Very few Japanese retailers take Bitcoins. The Bic Camera officials expect foreign travelers will be among the first to use the currency, which is more popular overseas than in Japan. They're expecting the number of local Bitcoin users to rise eventually. The executives say they're even considering expanding the number of Bitcoin-friendly stores.
Japanese authorities have tightened regulations on virtual currencies. The move went into force this month. It came after a Bitcoin exchange went bankrupt three years ago. Businesses that exchange virtual currencies for conventional money are now required to register with authorities.
