IMPROPER DISPOSAL OF SECRET FILES
中古収納棚から歴代豪政権の機密文書
The Australian government has launched an investigation into the disposal of filing cabinets containing classified documents.
Australia's national broadcaster ABC says a man purchased the locked filing cabinets at a secondhand furniture shop in Canberra. It says he broke open the locks and found inside thousands of pages of documents from past governments. Most of them are classified as "top secret" and "sensitive."
The government has admitted that the filing cabinets belonged to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and has reclaimed the documents. Federal police have joined an investigation into the disposal.
The government is also reviewing its management of classified documents.
