Japan's economy grew for a 2nd consecutive quarter in the July to September period. This is attributed to improving domestic demand and a rise in exports.
The Cabinet Office said on Monday that the GDP for the 3rd quarter was up 1.2 % or 4.8% at an annualized rate.
It also marks two consecutive quarters of positive growth for the first time in a year and half. A recovery in domestic demand contributed to the increase. Consumer spending grew 0.7% thanks to the government's economic stimulus measures, including tax cuts for eco-friendly vehicles.
Corporate capital expenditure was up 1.6% and public investment fell 1.2%. Exports also grew 6.4% thanks to improving auto sales to Asia and the U.S.
