20 YEARS ON THE THRONE
天皇陛下在位20年

Special 500-yen coins, worth about five and half dollars have been issued to mark the anniversary.
On one side of the coin is a chrysanthemum — the symbol of the Japanese imperial family. The other side bears the imperial seal. 10 million of the coins will be minted and made available at about 30,000 banks across Japan.
Separately, Japan Post has issued three commemorative stamps. The stamps bear an image of the imperial throne used in the emperor's coronation, as well as a "Kirin" and Phoenix, two mythical creatures.
About 100 people lined up at a post office in central Tokyo on Thursday morning when the stamps went on sale.
The post office also has a seal that is normally used only at the post office within the Imperial Household Agency. People could have their stamps marked with the seal to commemorate the occasion. The stamps are available at post offices nationwide.
