Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi has performed traditional bean-scattering for good luck on board the International Space Station 400 kilometers above the Earth.
February third is called "Setsubun" in Japan, the day before the beginning of spring according to the lunar calendar. People throw beans to drive away evil spirits and bring good fortune.
